Desipte the rough ride in the stock market so far this year, there have
been some winners among S&P 500 Index companies.
Most U.S. stocks were down Friday, following a 3.6% decline for the
Shanghai Composite Index SHCOMP, -3.55% which in turn followed a
report of declining lending activity and a move by the Bank
of China to inject $15.2 billion in liquidity into the country’s
banking system.
The S&P 500 SPX, -2.16% declined 2.2% on Friday and has now fallen
8.7% this year. Last year it dropped less than 1%.
